12 February. A training session for specialists from Lithuanian Regional Waste Management Centres (LRWMCs) was held at the Takniškės Waste Management Technology Park of the Alytus Regional Waste Management Centre to discuss innovative solutions in the waste management sector.
International experts presented the potential of artificial intelligence in waste analysis – real-time data collection, material identification and more efficient sorting line management. The importance of plastics sorting for meeting the EU’s 2030 recycling targets was also highlighted, stressing that without accurate polymer separation, these targets will not be met.
The prospects for landfill operation – planning, closure processes, landfill gas collection and ongoing environmental monitoring – are also discussed. The training provided a platform for sharing practical experience and strengthening cooperation between regional centres in the implementation of advanced technologies.
