Green waste management: what you need to know

Have you noticed new work starting in the garden? Picking fruit drops, raking the first leaves, harvesting garden produce – the green waste season is upon us.

It is important to note that green waste dumped in inappropriate places, such as forests, is not only aesthetically damaging to the landscape, but also causes biological pollution, releasing harmful substances such as ammonia and methane as it decomposes.

It is also crucial that this waste does not end up in mixed municipal waste bins, where it not only takes up valuable space in the bins and increases the load on landfills, but also contaminates recyclable packaging.

Responsible management practices:

  • Composting is the most effective way to turn green waste into valuable fertiliser for your plants.
  • Delivery to green waste composting sites – if you do not have the possibility to compost your green waste, you can deliver it to Kaunas RATC green waste sites.

Green waste composting sites accept waste from residents free of charge.

The collected branches, leaves, grass and fruit pellets are processed into high-quality compost, which you can use if needed You can buy it from the same site.
