Be responsible – take care of your waste properly!

3 March 2026 In Kaunas region, implementing the environmental requirements set by the Ministry of the Environment, a product waste collection campaign will be organised to collect free of charge the following waste products from residents, companies, institutions and organisations:

  • Electrical and electronic equipment waste;
  • Waste portable batteries and accumulators;
  • Waste air filters from internal combustion engines.

The following will be collected on payment by the waste holder:

During the product waste collection campaign, waste oils and waste oil and fuel filters from internal combustion engines will also be collected from those who maintain and repair vehicles on favourable terms (by paying the waste manager).

There is also a “We Sort” project for companies, institutions and organisations , which you can still join by sorting waste, collecting points and exchanging them for various prizes, trips and excursions! For information on the “We Sort” project, prizes and registration, visit www.mesrusiuojam.lt.

Metals, acids and other harmful substances in electrical and electronic equipment and in batteries and accumulators pose a serious threat to human health and the environment. This waste should not be mixed with other household waste. It must be separated, collected separately and handed over to a waste manager. Substances contained in waste oils, air, fuel, oil filters, shock absorbers also pose a risk to the environment and human health. They contaminate water, soil and the atmosphere with hazardous, harmful and toxic substances. Every holder of oil, air, fuel, grease filters, shock absorbers helps protect the environment and conserve natural resources by sorting waste and handing it over to waste managers for recycling and reuse. A car that is not in good working order is a source of pollution: it can leak environmentally damaging liquids (fuel, oil residues, various acids) into the soil, and broken car windows not only pollute the environment, but can also cause injuries to children playing nearby. Plastics, rubber, oil, tyres and other materials in the car do not take long to decompose once they are in the environment, and pollute the air if they are not burnt properly. For more information on waste management, waste sorting, waste collection sites and the environmental and human health impacts of improper waste management, see www.gia.lt, www.eei.lt.
