According to the data of the Kaunas Regional Waste Management Centre, during the warm period of the year, especially during the summer – the holiday season – the amount of waste delivered to bulky and hazardous waste collection sites almost doubles. This seasonal increase is associated with increased cleaning, repair and construction work on homes and the environment.
Correspondingly, this period also sees a significant increase in the number of visitors to waste collection sites. While it is encouraging that more and more people know how to deliver their waste properly, during the peak summer season there are often long queues at the sites, which become an unexpected inconvenience for those who arrive.
Peak occupancy is between 11:00 and 15:00 on weekdays, and Saturdays are no exception, so it is recommended to arrive between 11:00 and 13:00.
Opening hours of the courts:
Tuesday-Friday: 10:00-19:00 (Chemijos str. 4E and Vandžiogalos pl. 92B: 9:00-19:00)
Lunch break: 13:00 – 13:45
Saturday: 9:00-16:00
Closed on Sundays.
On Mondays, only the following sites are open: the Chemijos g. 4E, Jonalaukio g. 7 (Jonava district) and the green waste composting site in Kaunas – Nemajūnų g. 15A.
How to reduce waiting times:
- choose an off-peak visit – in the morning or later in the afternoon;
- Make sure your waste is sorted beforehand – it speeds up the whole process;
- It is worth calling the site before you go – staff can give you information on availability and other relevant information: www.kaunoratc.lt/kontaktai
As a reminder, waste brought to the sites must be sorted. Some types of waste are subject to annual volume limits:
- Bulky waste and wood (furniture, boards, sofas, etc.) – up to 500 kg per capita per year, unlimited for wood;
- Construction waste (bricks, concrete, insulation materials, window frames, dirty glass, etc.) – up to 300 kg per year;
- Asbestos-containing waste – up to 100 kg per year;
- Tyres (passenger cars, bicycles, motorcycles) – up to 5 pcs/year (tyres for trucks and agricultural machinery are not accepted);
- Hazardous waste – up to 50 kg per year; batteries and accumulators – unlimited acceptance;
- Electronics waste – unlimited, fluorescent lamps – up to 30 units per year ;
- Other separated waste (unlimited acceptance): metal, plastic, glass, paper and cardboard, textiles.
Important to know: during the cold season (autumn and winter), the occupancy of the sites drops by almost half, so if your waste management is not urgent, we recommend you to plan your visit during a quieter period.
