Kaunas Regional Waste Management Centre offers residents and legal entities to buy high-quality compost suitable for landscaping. The compost is produced in a natural way - green waste collected from towns, gardens and farms is composted in heaps by taking and sieving it. The compost decomposes in the soil, releasing essential plant nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and micro-nutrients. It is a natural fertiliser that is not too much for the soil or the plants. Unlike mineral fertilisers, it has no negative side effects. Compost eases the structure of clay soils and improves air permeability, while in sandy soils it retains moisture and restores degraded soils. The ability of compost to rebuild soil structure is even more highly valued than that of compost as a fertiliser.
