From 3 March. The bulky waste collection site (DGASA) in Julijanavos g. 1A, Kaunas, will be open for a longer period of time: from 9:00 to 19:00 on Tuesdays to Fridays. On Saturdays, the opening hours remain unchanged from 9:00 to 16:00. For the convenience of residents, the lunch break will be waived and residents will be served at the site during the full working hours.
The warm season traditionally sees an increase in the amount of waste delivered, with houses, basements, garages and farmhouses being cleaned and renovated. In order to take into account the increased waste streams and to make it more convenient for residents, the opening hours of the site are extended on weekdays. Residents will be able to plan their visit more efficiently and have their waste delivered at a time that is convenient and suitable for them.
“Julijanava Street parking lot is one of the most visited parking lots in Kaunas, so the opening hours are adjusted according to the needs of the residents – to make it convenient for those arriving in the morning and those planning to visit in the evening, after returning home after work. In addition, the lunch break is being eliminated and residents will be served continuously throughout the working hours. However, it is very important that residents arrive with their waste already sorted. If waste is sorted only when it arrives at the site, queues will form and waiting times will increase. Responsible preparation at home helps to speed up the process and saves time for everyone.”- Vygantas Miliūnas, waste collection site engineer at Kaunas Regional Waste Management Centre (Kaunas RWMC) shares his recommendations.
The following sorted bulky waste is accepted at the sites: old furniture, wood, construction waste, electronics, used tyres, hazardous and asbestos-containing waste, metals, plastics, textiles, glass, paper and cardboard, and used cooking oil. Some types of waste are subject to annual delivery limits, which can be found on the Kaunas RWRC website: https://kaunoratc.lt/dgasa/.
If you are planning to bring in a larger amount of waste, it is advisable to call the site in advance to check its capacity to accept it. The site has a limited capacity, so individual waste containers may be full at certain times.
It should be noted that there are other bulky waste collection sites in Kaunas, so residents can choose the one that is most convenient for them or the one that is less busy. The addresses, opening hours, contacts and information on the annual waste volume limits for all sites are available on the Kaunas RATC website: https://kaunoratc.lt/dgasa/.
