8 May Representatives of Kaunas RATC participated in the Practical Conference “Waste”, which aims to bring together representatives of the waste management sector, politics and business for a common dialogue in order to cooperate and develop an effective waste management system that meets the needs of all stakeholders and the public.
The presentation by Laurynas Virbickas, Director of Kaunas RATC, on “The food waste management game: who makes the rules?” also contributed to the topical issues of the conference. The presentation pointed out that although the EU Directive sets common definitions, the interpretation of these definitions varies greatly from one municipality to another, and therefore decisions are often different. There is a lack of clear leadership to provide a unified direction and to help build an effective system, he said.
The conference’s “Ideas Fair” presented the educational activities of Kaunas RATC and invited participants to try out the popular board game for children “Ekomonstriukai”. Playing the game, they could see how easy it is to understand the principles of waste sorting, to develop responsibility for the environment and to form sustainable habits that last in everyday life.
Thank you to the conference organisers for the timely topics, the opportunity to share experiences and strengthen cooperation!
