A waste site with an “Atiduotuve” has opened in Užtaki – a step towards a greener tomorrow

Today, a new bulky waste collection site was officially opened in Užtakai village, Rumšiškės municipality, Kaišiadorys district. This is a significant step towards strengthening the population’s ability to sort, reducing environmental pollution and implementing both regional and national environmental measures.

Convenience for residents – less pollution

The site is free of charge for residents to deliver bulky waste such as old furniture, household appliances, construction waste and other items that do not fit into regular municipal waste containers, including hazardous waste. Such facilities not only facilitate the daily management of waste, but also help to reduce the amount of illegal waste dumped into the environment.

“I am glad that this site will become a real help to the residents of the district, especially to the Rumšiškės region, and at the same time it strengthens our commitment to create a greener Lithuania,” said Šarūnas Čėsna, the Mayor of Kaišiadorys district.

“Atiduotuvė – promoting a culture of sharing

One of the site’s advantages is the “Atiduotuvė” exchange point. Residents can bring in items that are still usable but no longer needed, such as books, crockery, toys, small household items, or even furniture, and take back what is useful for their own household.

This promotes a culture of sharing, reduces waste and prolongs the life of things.

Contributing to a national and European green deal

“The construction of this site is a concrete result that contributes to the implementation of the measures of the National Waste Prevention and Management Plan 2021-2027 in the region. It is not only an investment in a cleaner environment, but also in our common responsibility to create a more sustainable future,” said Laurynas Virbickas, Director of the Kaunas Regional Waste Management Centre. According to him, this is just the beginning – eight more bulky waste collection sites are planned to be set up in the Kaunas region over the next few years, two of which will be located in Kaišiadorys District.

The playground is designed to promote the principles of the circular economy at local government level. This is also in line with the European Green Deal’s focus on a climate-neutral, socially just and resource-efficient economy.
